When it comes to familiarising with the nuts and bolts of participatory budgeting, you’ve got your work cut out. First step web search. Lots on the reasons why you’d do participatory budgeting. It’s a great way to ….. But where’s the practical info? Is Chicago’s experience relevant for us? Or New York’s? And why so much material from Latin America?
To get a logical and consistent view of participatory budgeting training is useful. A lot more productive than hours of trawling the web.
With the VLGA, I’ll be running training on the nuts and bolts, starting in August. Participants will get grounding in key practical areas for planning and working on a participatory budget, and do practical work in their own setting.
And why so much from Latin America? It’s a case of reverse innovation, where first world US, UK and Australian innovators have learned from the ‘developing world’. Same as Gatorade, first developed in Bangladesh.
Hope to see you in August for the participatory budgeting training nuts and bolts. Some things you shouldn’t come without:
- at least a hint of political support
- an interest in communicating about the process within your organisation
