Jane Jacobs was a luminary of critical thinking about cities. Her influence can be strongly felt in the city of Melbourne. I’ve joined in the global celebration of her legacy to offer a Melbourne walk on the first weekend of May. There’s something in it for anyone who wants to find out more about the sociocultural and sustainable dimensions of the CBD.
For community engagement professionals and dilettantes I’m using simple writing techniques that will bring people’s impressions, interests, preferences and questions to light. I’ll be encouraging each walker to keep a personal place record that we’ll browse through at Flora over a chai. Of course, nothing will be compulsory on this delightful adventure!
Hope to see you at Spring Street at 10.30am on Saturday the 4th of May. The meeting place is Coles Fountain in Parliament Reserve.
Cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when they are created by everybody. Jane Jacobs
